SAN DIEGO - February 13, 2001
Abacus America, holding company for RODOPI Software, (www.rodopi.com) solution
provider for the ISP, ASP, E-Commerce and Telco industries, and Aplus.Net Internet
(www.aplus.net) a full service Internet Service Provider (ISP) today announced
that Abacus has signed an agreement with Covad Communications, the leading
national broadband service provider utilizing DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
technology.
This agreement will allow the RODOPI Software division to commence the resale of Covad DSL services through its RODOPI Software affiliates, numbering over 600 in the continental U.S. It will also allow the Aplus.Net division to provision DSL services to its own customer base, and to partner with other ISPs allowing them to resell the service as well.
RODOPI Software, the billing, provisioning and customer care solution of choice with over 600 ISP's worldwide, allows IP-based businesses to establish automated provisioning including DSL account creation, pre-paid services, VoIP, FoIP, and automated provisioning of bandwidth management. Through the agreement with Covad, these ISP's will now also have the ability to offer DSL in any of Covad's service areas.
Aplus.Net will act as a direct DSL service provider. This means that Covad will provide "the last mile" to the customer while Aplus.Net will provide the IP addresses and the Internet backbone infrastructure.
Effective immediately, RODOPI Software and Aplus.Net Internet will offer DSL services at various bandwidth levels suitable for personal, SOHO, large or medium-sized business. Because there are no line commitments or large setup fees for the ISPs that take part in the program, this unique relationship will empower many ISPs to offer DSL for the first time.
"Covad is committed to providing ultra-fast, affordable and 'always-on' Internet access to small businesses and consumers," said John McDevitt, executive vice president of Sales & Marketing for Covad. "Through a high-speed broadband connection Abacus America customers will be better able to use the Internet, whether for e-business applications, video-conferencing, file sharing, or faster e-mailing."
Ivan Vachovsky, President and C.E.O. of Abacus America said of the agreement, "We are pleased to partner with the leading DSL provider in the U.S. This relationship will certainly benefit the 600 plus ISPs in our Rodopi Software network, along with the millions of customers they collectively serve." Ira Wheeler, C.O.O. of A+ Net, agrees, "Partnering with many ISPs will give all of us the opportunity to compete on a level playing field with the big-boys in the DSL game. We're excited to be spearheading a program with so much value to everyone."
